Another free golf winner?

Chicken dinner! I’m very happy to have tipped Viktor Hovland at 18/1 to win the BMW Championship last week as he performed brilliantly to secure the victory on Sunday. After a few places in previous weeks, we landed in the winner’s enclosure, so well done to those who were on!

Tour Championship (24th-27th August)

The Tour Championship event this week is the finale of the season where each of the Top 30 players are given a starting score based on their performance during the season. Unsurprisingly, it’s Scheffler who leads the way and starts the event -10, with Hovland -8, Mcllroy -7 and Rahm -6.

The event this week at East Lake will be a good test for the world’s best players and should be an intriguing tournament to see how they compete with the pre-scoring handicap.

The course is likely to be low scoring and momentum can be key here, especially with many players in catch up mode if they want to finish placed.

Not all leaders pe-tournament have gone on to win the tournament so Hovland, Mcllroy and Rahm especially can take heart from this.

Hovland comes into this in huge confidence following his win last week, but Scheffler knows if he players anywhere near his best golf, he can secure the title, which would be well deserved given he has been the most consistent player on Tour.

Lucas Glover (who earned us place money a few weeks ago) finds himself nicely positioned and Cantley will look to come off the pace to challenge for top spot.

There are a few betting markets available including Tour Championship winner, plus 72 hole stroke play (so this will ignore the handicap starts given).

In the outright betting, Scheffler is 6/4 with Mcllroy 7/2, 11/2 Hovland and 10/1 Rahm. I feel Rahm can be dismissed due to his lack of form right now and, due to the handicaps, outside of these it will be a tall order to land the prize.

Best Each-Way Odds

Looking at the best each-way odds in the market, we have 1/5 the odds 5 places Paddy Power, William Hill and Coral.

Our Selection

Viktor Hovland @ 11/2with Betfair Sportsbook (1/5 the odds, 5 places) – 1pt e/w

If it’s not broken, why fix it? Our play for this Tour Championship is to side with our man who won last week. Full of confidence and only two shots off the leader before 72 holes of golf, Hovland can look to win again and, at worse, secure a place.
