“I refuse to take their money”

Reporting from Bet Chat HQ, Northern Ireland…

Back on October 23rd last year, we launched Second Class Racing, a lay betting service run by tipping superstar Mel Gee.

Yesterday, that service reached a new high watermark of 50.59 points profit since launch… or, in cash terms, £505.90 profit to £10 stakes.

And yet, despite appearances, this is NOT a promotional email.

In fact, I am refusing to take on any new members of the service today or for the near future.

Why I’m taking a stand

You see, there’s a problem, not with the service, but with people who sign up to this, and indeed most other, services…

And it’s a problem that I see repeated over and over and over and over and over again.

The most vicious of cycles

Here’s what happens:

  • Betting service has impressive winning run.
  • Betting service is promoted, and new members sign up.
  • Betting service goes on a losing run which, let’s face it, isn’t a surprise due to the recent winning run and the fact that no service can win all the time.
  • New members cancel.

At this point, the members and the betting service part ways and here’s what happens next:

  • The betting service invariably goes on another winning run.

But…

  • The members that cancelled miss out on that winning run and, worse still, have likely joined a different service being promoted which has just had a winning run which… guess what… means that the chances of them stumbling headfirst into a losing run is pretty damn high.

It’s a sorry state of affairs all round, isn’t it?

Here’s what’s been happening with Second Class Racing

As I said at the top of this email, I’m not promoting Second Class Racing today…

In fact, if you look at the promo page right now you’ll see that I’m not even letting you sign up. The order form is closed, and we’re not taking any payments…

But I am going to tell you how it’s been going.

It started with a pretty great run, which saw us standing on a total overall profit of 48.78 points profit as the clock struck midnight on New Years Eve.

Then, because no service can win all the time, the service began to encounter a losing run. January saw a loss of 30 points and February didn’t start to move in the right direction again until the 21st.

Lots of the new members that joined the service over the festive period cancelled, panicking about how long it would take them to recoup their losses (many no doubt ignoring the advice given upon joining to use a 100-point betting bank).

Fast forward to today, just six weeks later and, guess what?

The losses made in that period have been recouped, and then some, with the close of play yesterday seeing the service hit a new all-time profit high.

Those members who cancelled have my sympathies. I only hope that the next service they joined didn’t also encounter a losing run.

What happens next?

So, what next for Second Class Racing?

Well, in the short term, nobody knows, but given the recent gains, it wouldn’t surprise me if there was some sort of drawback within the next month or two.

In the long term however, I’m pretty damn sure I know what happens next… more profit.

You see that one thing, above all else, is the key to profitable sports betting… a long-term mindset. If you have it, then you can take the bad with the good and reap the rewards given time. If you don’t have it, then you’re pretty much doomed.

We will open the doors to Second Class Racing again at some stage, but I’ll be making sure that we do so after a downturn. At that stage, I’ll implore you to take a real good hard look and consider joining up…

If, however, that recent poor run puts you off – even if it’s within the wider context of a highly profitable long-term record – then you clearly haven’t read this email properly, so make another cup of tea, rewind back to the start, and give it another go.

Trust me when I say that re-reading this a couple of times will be a lot less painful than the other cycle I’ve been talking about today!
