Reporting from Bet Chat HQ, Northern Ireland…
Hi,
So, that was Euro 2024…
It ends with delight for Spain, more heartbreak for England and Scotland and, as has just been confirmed, the resignation of Gareth Southgate.
There are many many words that could be and indeed will be written elsewhere about England and Southgate, but today I’m going to ignore all that and instead provide a Bet Chat betting recap.
To refresh your memories, here’s a link to our Euros preview.
And here, is how we got on…
Group A
Hungary: Nailed on to beat Scotland as underdogs.
Switzerland: …always seem to get through the group.
Suggested Plays: Hungary to beat Scotland. Scotland to finish bottom of the group. Scott McTominay to be top Scotland scorer.
Results: Is that a full house siren I hear? Yes, yes it is.
Group B
Spain: Will probably top the group but not enough firepower to go all the way.
Croatia: Consistently overachieve at the World Cup but actually have a very poor record at the Euros.
Italy: Not to be trusted.
Albania: Might nick a draw against someone but that’s about as good as it’s likely to get.
Suggested plays: Spain to top the group ahead of Italy in a straight forecast.
I didn’t have Spain winning the tournament but, again, nailed everything else.
Group C
Slovenia: Not impossible they might get out the group.
Denmark: Unlikely to make it further than the second round this time.
Suggested Plays: England to lose on penalties in any match after the last 16.
Not a bad set here. The England penalty bet didn’t cop but a quarter final shootout at least provided some entertainment.
Group D
Netherlands: Unlikely to go further than the quarters.
Austria: I think they’ll get out the group.
Suggested Plays: Poland to finish bottom of the group.
A round short on Netherlands, but again, rather good.
Group E
Belgium: They were poor at the World Cup and might struggle again.
Suggested Plays: Ukraine to win the group. Ukraine to qualify from the group.
In the messiest group of the tournament, we somehow had a team that finished joint top in terms of points, but ultimately in last place and failing to get through. Belgium did however struggle again.
Group F
Georgia: A surprise result isn’t beyond them but they’re unlikely to get out the group.
Suggested Plays: Portugal to be the highest scoring team of the tournament. Czech Republic to be eliminated in the last 16.
Well, we had to have one bomb out, didn’t we? In fairness, if I knew in advance how many minutes Ronaldo was going to play, I wouldn’t have gone anywhere near Portugal. Ah well.
As for the Inside Man…
Not a bad old set of suggestions there from yours truly, even if I do say so myself!
Elsewhere, we of course promoted our premium football service, Inside Man, pre-tournament and our professional football bettor Adam Cheng didn’t let the side down, once again delivering a profit for his members.
If you’d like to give his service a try for the new domestic season, just click this link.
So, how did you get on? I hope you smashed it from a betting perspective and enjoyed the tournament whichever nation you were cheering on.
If you’d like to get in touch, you can reach us at clients@thebetchat.com, otherwise enjoy the rest of your day. I’m off to scour the next England manager betting market…
