Canadian Open Golf (Thursday 7th June to Sunday 11th June)

The Canadian Open Golf is the highlight of this week on the PGA Tour before all eyes are set on the US Open next week. The 2019 and 2023 renewals of this tournament were won by Rory Mcllroy with some outstanding golf and, with his improvement last week, it’s no surprise that he is the clear 5/1 favourite with the bookies.

In addition to that, top golfers such as Rahm, Scheffler and Hovland aren’t participating this week and so it is a perfect chance for Rory to get a win under his belt before the next Major.

The Oakdale Golf and Country Club should see plenty of low scores throughout the four days and good iron play will be key along with a sharp putter to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Tyrell Hatton is second favourite at 12/1 followed by Sam Burns at 14/1. Both could well be in contention come the final day, but there may well be a long shot who can secure a place to get a nice return here.

One player who comes into this well rested but in excellent form is Justin Rose. Tied 12th in the Charles Schwab challenge at the end of May and before that tied 9th in the PGA Championship, Rose is one to consider this week at 18/1 with Boylesports. Keeping full concentration for the entire four days can enable Rose to land this Canadian Open.

A couple of Canadian golfers who will be keen to impress this week are Corey Conners at 18/1 generally and Mackenzie Hughes at 66/1. Both of these talented golfers missed the cut last week and are not in excellent form but do show on occasions brilliant golf to be in contention in top PGA Tour events. They both need a good start and then, on home soil, could compete and the business end of the tournament.

Best Each-Way Odds

Looking at the best each-way odds in the market, we have 1/5 the odds 10 places with Coral and Ladbrokes and 1/5 the odds 8 places generally with Paddy Power, William Hill, SkyBet and Boylesports.

Selections

All bets are recommended each-way

Justin Rose at 18/1 with Boylesports (1/5 the odds, 8 places) – 1pt e/w

Our top pick this week is Justin Rose. The ultra-consistent Rose comes into this fresh having not played last week and, with a T12 and T9 in his last two starts, there is confidence he can compete for the title come Sunday evening. Putting well is key to his game, and should he have his A game on display, this could be a good week for Rose.

Mackenzie Hughes at 66/1 with William Hill (1/5 the odds, 6 places) – 0.5pt e/w

One long shot I want to put up is Canadian Mackenzie Hughes. He’s not playing the best golf right now, however, should he kick start this tournament with a good score, then being on home soil and with an extra incentive to perform, Hughes could showcase his true potential and be in the mix come Sunday evening.
