I’m delighted to bring you my first golf preview and my best bets, using the many trends available to narrow the field down and give solid each-way picks for this year’s US Masters.
Every past winner had played at least one Masters tournament before they won, 24 out of 25 winners made the cut at the Masters the year before they won it, 21 out of 23 winners were ranked in the top 30 in the world rankings and 11 of the last 13 winners had finished in the top six of a major tournament within two years leading up to their Masters win.
Likely Winners
Taking the above into account and looking at the key traits you need in your game to win the Masters, a good short game is paramount. It’s also important to be in good form coming into a tournament like this to be in with a chance of winning.
Scott Scheffler defends his crown and is in good form having won the Players Championship a month ago and he will likely be in among the shake up on day four. Rory Mcllroy is favourite for the tournament and comes into this in fine form too.
Other notable players in the mix are Australian Cameron Smith, tied 2nd in 2020 and the Open Championship winner last year. Smith is very likely to go well this week although, currently on the LIV tour, he may not get the best reception.
Next up is Tony Finau. He is super consistent at Augusta with three top 10 finishes in five starts at The Masters. He thrives on the big occasion and is a solid each-way shot here.
One last pick is England’s Justin Rose. Twice runner up at the Masters and a winner on the PGA Tour in February, Rose odds represent good each-way value to finish in the places in this year’s event.

Looking at the best each-way odds in the market, we have Paddy Power, Coral and Ladbrokes paying each-way 1/5 the odds 10 places and then Betfair and Betway paying a massive 1/5 the odds 12 places. The likes of bet365, SkyBet and William Hill are currently paying 8 places.

Rory Mcllroy @ 7/1 with SkyBet (8 places) / 6/1 with Ladbrokes (10 places) – 1pt
Rory is in fine form and comes into the Masters ready to take the Green Jacket. Trends and stats firmly place Rory as the one to beat and the key is for him to have a solid first round as he will get better as the tournament goes on.
Colin Morikawa @ 25/1 with William Hill (8 places) – 1pt
Fifth in 2022, Morikawa is a multi Major championship winner and has credentials to do very well this week. His short game is excellent and he has the composure and skill level to compete with the best this week.
Justin Rose @ 50/1 with Paddy Power (10 places) – ½ pt
Justin Rose has a solid record at the Masters and his understanding of the course is so important here. Rose has been competitive in many previous tournaments and is currently showing an improvement in form. He will fancy his chances of competing come Sunday evening.
